Information for Students

Important Reminders for All Students

  • Carefully read your class/workshop dates and times.
  • 2 humans may attend per dog in group classes and workshops
    • However, Private 1 on 1 lessons may bring additional human guests
  • For further details on our COVID safety protocols please see our COVID Policies page.
  • Please familiarize yourself with our facility policies prior to class. By attending class, you are agreeing to abide by all policies.
  • Please wait outside until your instructor invites you in before entering your class, to avoid anyone running into the previous class as they exit the space. Remember some dogs need extra space.
  • All classes take place at 3133 Sumner Ave, Burnaby. 
    • There are 3 different training floors. Please read your registration email carefully for which training floor you are on and use the correct entrance. (See map farther down the page for reference) 
  • Please ONLY park in our marked “DogWorks” parking stalls.
  • Dogs are to remain on-leash at ALL TIMES unless it is a designated off-leash time in class. 
  • Please DO NOT potty your dogs across the streeet, as that is casino property. Please use the grass areas on our side of the street instead. 
  • Not all dogs waht to socialize with other dogs or people. Always be aware of where you and your dog are in relation to other people and dogs, and be respectful of other dogs’ space. There should be no need for dogs or people to physically interact outside of puppy playtime in class. 
  • What to bring: 
    • Your dog wearing a flat collar, martingale collar, or harness
    • A 4-6′ fabric or leather leash. 
      • No flexi/extendable leashes please
    • LOTS of small, soft, high value, bite sized treats! MUST BE NON-CRUMBLY. 
    • A treat pouch (or a pocket to store your treats in)
    • A chew, snuffle mat, stuffed kong, or other activity to occupy your dog during down time between exercises/turns. 
      • Some recommendations: bully sticks, kongs stuffed with things and frozen (such as cream cheese/peanut butter/wet food/soaked kibble etc), yak chews, snuffle mats, or other similar items
    • Water dish for your dog
    • Poop bags
    • A toy your dog loves (NON-SQUEAKY) such as a ball or tug
    • A small bed, blanket, towel, or crate (for your dog to rest in/on during down time) 
    • Comfortable clothes and footwear
      • You may need to kneel or sit on the floor for some exercises
      • No flip flops please
    • (optional) a clicker if you clicker train with your dog

WEST BOUND ON THE HIGHWAY

  • Take the Willingdon Exit (29) on Highway 1.
  • Turn Right onto Willingdon.
  • Turn Right at Canada Way
  • Turn Right at Sumner
  • You will see our building on the left!

EAST BOUND ON THE HIGHWAY

  • Take the Willingdon Exit (29) on Highway 1.
  • Turn Left onto Willingdon (signs for Willingdon Ave South S)
  • Turn Right at Canada Way
  • Turn Right at Sumner
  • You will see our building on the left!

LOCATION OF YOUR CLASS: 

Please see your confirmation e-mail for the location of your class: Classroom, North Floor, or South Floor.

  • For North Floor: Please walk around to the back of the building and enter through the marked door next to the Ramp.
  • For South Floor: Please enter through the front doors/reception and head through the doors at the back left next to the reception desk.
  • For Classroom: Please enter through the front doors/reception and head through the door to the right.

Please wait until your instructor invites you in before entering class.

SPECIFIC CLASS INFORMATION

Positive Puppy  &  Puppy Teen 1 Class Information

  • 1st class is mandatory
  • Please complete proof of Vaccinations Form prior to the first class.
    Core vaccines are required to be kept up to date:
    • 8 weeks: distemper, parvo, adenovirus (hepatitis) & parainfluenza
    • 12 weeks: 2nd set: distemper, parvo, adenovirus (hepatitis) & parainfluenza 
    • 16 weeks: 3rd set or titre results
    • over 24 weeks: rabies

Puppy Teen 2 Class Information

  • Please complete proof of Vaccinations Form prior to the first class.  
    Core vaccines are required to be kept up to date:

Good Manners & Basic Obedience Class Information

  • Class #1 is humans only, please leave the dogs at home, but come with any training questions you have! (Class #1 is mandatory)

Good Manners 2: Level Up Your Skills

  • Please bring a 15-20 foot long line to class.

Sports Puppy 1, 2, and 3

  • These courses cover a lot of material and are best for people who have a history in dog sports or love training with their dog! Be prepared for lots of homework!

Agility Foundations

  • Please leave your dog in the car for the first 5 minutes of class, as the instructor will go over a few things before they are brought in. 
    • If the weather is too hot to leave them in the car for that long, you may bring them in with you, but they need to be quiet while the intro is being done. 
  • The first class is mandatory. 

All other Agility classes

  • No additional instructions. 

All Rally Obedience classes

  • No additional instructions. 

SPECIFIC WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Reliable Recall Workshop

  • Please bring a 15-20 foot long line to class.

Loose Leash Walking Workshop

  • No additional instructions. 

Tricks Workshops

  • Bring a list of a few tricks you’d like your dog to learn!
    • We poll the students in the first few minutes of the workshop to determine what tricks the workshop will focus on!

Disc Throwing Workshops

  • Bring ANY and ALL discs you currently play with.
  • Throwing workshops are HUMANS ONLY 
    • So you can ignore all of the dog-related information on this page. 
  • Only ONE human may attend per registration slot (with the exception of minors who come with a guardian)

Disc Tricks/Skills Workshops

  • Bring ANY and ALL discs you currently play with.
  • The Tricks and Skills workshops are with the dogs, and so all dogs need to either be able to wait quietly in a crate (that you bring) in the side room to the training floor or wait in your vehicle in between turns.
